Lower Explosive Limit
Explosive limits define the area within which a mixture of air with a gas, vapour, mist or powder can ignite or explode when ignited.
For gases and vapors of liquid and solid substances, the lower value of the explosion area is shown as a fraction (elsewhere the Lower Explosive Limit (LEL) is also shown as percentage by volume in air). The English abbreviation for the lower explosive limit is LEL (Lower Explosive Limit).
No lower explosion limit is shown for powdery substances and mists because it depends on the particle size. In general, the explosive limits of powders are between 0.02 and a few kg/m3.
